The Cheltiké Chai Bag™
The Cheltiké Chai Bag™
Cheltiké™ is a traditional method of quilting in Iranian villages, a process used to conjoin several disparate pieces of frayed and superfluous textiles together. The word Cheltiké™ translates from Persian to “40 pieces”. Utilizing a garment pattern from Dorriz’s archived works from the 1990s, the new body of work features editions of one of Cheltiké™ works. One-of-one works handmade upholding the Iranian tradition of Cheltiké™.
The Cheltiké Chai Bag™ is made from an assortment of vintage and historical textiles from the Shahla Dorriz Archives with handmade Termeh from Iran. Each Cheltiké Chai Bag™ is made-to-order and is 100% unique and one-of-one. No two Cheltiké Chai Bags™ will look alike, because each will utilize a different batch of textiles.
All bags 100% handcrafted and handmade in Southern California.
The fashion industry is responsible for nearly 10% of global carbon emissions—more than all international flights and maritime shipping combined—and produces 20% of global wastewater, largely from dyeing and textile treatment. This work was custom-made and handcrafted in Southern California with quality textiles. Original garment designs and artwork are the intellectual property of Shahla Dorriz and are protected under applicable copyright, trademark, and design rights law.
Since the 1990s, Shahla Dorriz has worked exclusively in a bespoke model: one-of-one couture, with no garment ever reproduced. Shahla Dorriz preserves a 150-year-old family textile archive from the provinces of Yazd and Esfahan, Iran, Turkmenistan, Tajikistan, Bukhara, and Baluchistan, including Iranian Qalamkar (blockprinting), soozan-doozi, and gol-dozi works.
This work by Shahla Dorriz is made-to-order. Only one single iteration and edition of this work will exist with the variations of textile use between each order. For this reason, this work is non-refundable and is final sale. As part of the collection and acquisition of this work, Shahla Dorriz is proud to present complementary shipping. Please know, certain Cheltiké™ works incorporate natural frayed edges and loose stitches as an aesthetic arrangement of the work. Additionally, the nature of Cheltiké™ works are that the specific textiles are irreplaceable, rare, one-of-a-kind, and repairs will not guarantee the work will be restored to it its original state; rather, the work will transform.
